Thousand Pound Wine Bar and Store was developed by Denis Lucey (Bottega Melbourne) and the All Saints Estate siblings, Eliza, Angela and Nicholas Brown. It is a relaxed venue, with contemporary interior and bar seating which sets a new scene for Rutherglen. Nick Brown created the extensive wine list with family and friends in mind. Wines are sourced predominantly from 'family owned' wineries, and winemakers and wineries that Nick admires. Nick Brown has also included curios such as Maotai (rice wine) from China and Rutherglen wine cocktails made from fortified wine. Nick Brown says 'We grew up in a family that doesn't judge a person on what wine they drank. We wanted our thirsty local crowd to be able to discover wines that we love to drink from 'family owned' Australian wineries to wineries abroad that we have a special affiliation with. Thousand Pound Wine Bar and Store has a small offering of local and imported, cider, beers and spirits, which the family also enjoy. Housed in an original Victorian store front in Rutherglen' s historic main street the building has been renovated simply with bar seating, high tables in the main room with an inviting hallway with wine barrels for more of an intimate scene. Chef's Simon Arkless and Cait Mitchelhill from the hatted Terrace Restaurant at All Saints Estate prepare humble, fresh, bar food.
